Well I was very excited to see this. Firstly because Bansali is directing it and secondly because of the sizzling chemistry between the lead. Though the promo’s were a bit too loud and definitely over the top. And after spending 5 minutes into the theater I realized that I’m going to get exactly that.
Honestly we don’t go to a Bansali movie to get realism. We go to the theater to be dazzled in his fantasy. This film has all the Bansali trademarks ; Gorgeously shoted locations, Over the top sets, Amazing background score, Some dazzling dance numbers, Costumes to look out for and two people who faces tremendous trouble in their love life. But what surprised me the most is the humor which is not that common in a Bansali film.
Bansali tries to create Romeo and Juliet in an Indian-Modern way and does that wonderfully in the first half. The leading pairs kept me pinned to me sit from their scene in the film.
The background score is fantastic and often helps highlight scenes. And the music also composed by Bansali is very melodious. All the songs are fantastic. My favorites are Nagada, Tattad Tattad , Lahu Muh Lag Gaya and Ram Chahe Leela Chahe.
Supriya Pathak is a treat to watch. Richa Chaddha, Gulshan Devaiah, Barkha Bisht, Abhimanyu Singh gives an amazing performance. But this film remains to it’s lead. Deepica gives an outstanding performance. Definitely it’s not even close to realism but that’s what this film demands. She is absolutely gorgeous. She puts layer into her character. Ranbeer also shines in the role of Ram. He manages to extract the raw energy that remains inside the men of our society.
Bansali excels himself in a kind of film that he had not done in a long time. His narration kept me engrossed throughout the film. After not so good Guzarish and ridiculous Swariya he actually managed to make some thing a bit out of the box.
What’s not so good is the screenplay which starts to wobble in post interval. It becomes way too long. At the end I was so restless that I wanted it just to finish. My feelings for the characters where gone.
But still you should watch it for Ranbeer and Deepika. I’m going with three and a half stars. This half star is for them. And I demand at least another film from this sexy pair.
