The main reason for my excitement towards this film is Jennifer Lawrence. The film starts with her and ends with her. The last scene made me even more excited to see the next installment in this series.

The film starts off with an amazing scene. And it continued its momentum for a long time. The narrative starts to wobble post interval part. I became bored and wanting it to end. But the wait was worthy as the climax was fantastic.

Catching fire starts after Katniss wins the death-defying championship in the first film. Catching fire is kind a like a middle movie. It sets the pace for the next two films.

This movie was directed by  Francis Lawrence, replacing the original Gary Ross. Well his direction is mind blowing. Inspite of its open ended plot the director manages to caste an amazing narration which engrossed me from the moment go. It can be said that he has presented a much sharper film then the first film (Hunger Games,2012). The screenplay itself is much more tighter.

There are plenty of gripping scenes in this film. Which is hard to mention in words. But what I can mention is the amazing star cast that the makers have arranged. All of them looked like that they were born to be that character. Though sometimes the futuristic costumes, prop and set pieces were a bit too much to digest. But that won’t going to be a problem because of the thrill that almost always remains in the screen.

Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Lenny Kravitz, Jena Malone and everyone else were just top notch. Special mentioning here for Stanley Tucci who dazzles in the role of the game host. But this film remains mainly towards its lead. Katniss is the heart of this film and Academy Award winner 23 year old Jennifer Lawrence becomes the perfect fit for the role. She is absolutely fantastic. Watching her is like a treat.

Well Catching fire is not just a film it’s more than that. You’ll like this if you have liked the first one. So for those guys please do watch it, I assure you won’t be disappointed. I’m going with four stars.

  1. Good review. While I still can’t wait to see what’s next in this story, I also feel like there is definitely a huge shot at screwing it all up. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen, but if it does, I won’t be able to say I was all that surprised.
