20th Annual Life OK Screen Award Winners List – ‘not that bad’

I was really surprised to see that Anand Gandhi (Ship of Theseus) won the special jury award at the Life OK Screen Award 2014. Yeah, not only that the film also took away the best debut award as Aida El-Kashef won the most promising newcomer award. Even Ritesh Batra took home the best debut director award for The Luncbox.

Surprised..!! well the surprise didn’t end here. I was shocked to see that best screen play was given to Shahid. And Kai Po Che won three awards one for best debut male another for best editing and finally for best lyrics.

Other than that most of them were unfair. Specially the main categories as Bhag Milkha Bhaag won best film and Farhan Akhtar won best actor. But I was very happy to see Deepika Padukone taking home three awards respectively for Best Actress(Jury), Best Actress(Populer), And Screen Hero award.

  1. They are the least worst of them all. Unlike Filmfare or Zee Cine, they don’t always go for the typical commercial blockbusters or the obvious choice for their big prize, as is evidence through their previous winner choices like Udaan, Paan Singh Tomar, The Dirty Picture… But my only problem this award is that they have 10000 awards categories. Like just for male actors, there are 6 (!) categoriesthey can contend from – Best Popular Actor, Best Jury Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Negative Role Actor, Best Comedic Role Actor, Best Promising Newcomer. Then there is the Best Child Actor, Special Power Award and Special Jodi Award yada yada yada… Just toooo many categories. How is there competition among each others if one actor is bound to atleast win in one of the 6 categories he can get nominated from?!

For example, (i know this is not possible, nor has it ever happened in this awards before but just to give example) let’s say Sushant Singh Rajput did 2 movies (Shuddh Desi and Kai Po Che) Let’s also say he had done (imaginary) role of Kaal instead of Vivek Oberoi in Krrish 3. Now, theoretically, he could have got nominated for all six categories!! for either one film or the other. So where is the fun in that? If he loses in one, there are another 5 more chances.

What they should do is like the Filmfare (the one thing they do better at) where they only have Best Lead and Best Supporting Actors. That’s it, no requirement for all other reasons to award movie stars needed.
